Why I Love This Kid

Here's Carter with his teacher, Ms. Ellis. We love her...she's wonderful.

Here's why I love this kid today...he's just so darn logical. The other night at supper he didn't want to finish his food so Jason said, "You need to eat your supper. You have a basketball game tonight. You need energy." In his over-dramatic way he responded, "But Dad! I have energy! I've been breathing all day and I haven't had any problems!"

Well...how can you argue with that? Ah, logic, you hath trumped us again.

What Goes Around

Here's a picture of Carter and Sarah from Grandpa and Granny's at Christmas. Aren't they sweet?

When I was a teenager, I distinctly remember asking my mother the same question everyday the moment she walked through the door in the evening...before she put her purse down, took a breath or gathered her thoughts. "Mom, what's for supper?" Because my mother is saintly, I don't recall her ever getting angry over my question. I believe all things come full-circle so I figured my turn to answer this nightly question would come at some point. What I didn't count on was that my turn would come so quickly....

On the way home from school the other day, Sarah says from the backseat, "Mom? What's for suppie?"

Really? REALLY???

Sorry Mom. I should've waited 'til you put your purse down.

Basketball

Have I mentioned that Carter is playing basketball this winter? Yep, that's right...add that to his repertoire of sports, soccer, baseball and now basketball. Out of all of them, he seems to have a penchant for basketball. He attended a basketball camp last summer at Murray State and it seemed to really help his form. When he's on the court he just looks like a little basketball player. He walks, talks and guards just like a pro...he even wipes his hands on the bottom of his shoes as he walks onto the court (come on...I know you've seen guys do that). He really seems to enjoy the game and has liked learning to run plays (even if they don't always seem to play out correctly). His team is pretty good, too. They've only lost one game so far this season.

3 New Friends

Sarah made a few new friends at church during the Christmas season...they each carried gold, frankincense and myrrh. Can you guess who they were? She looked so cute standing there talking with them I just had to take her picture...for the next 3 weeks of advent every time we walked by the trio she would walk over and say, "Take my piicha." (And don't you love the ponytail?)

The way she says things is so cute...like when we pass Sonic (everyday...since it's right down the street) she says in her little sing song voice, "Theeerree's Snonic. Mom, we eat Snonic? Peeeeaassse?" Or when we get in the car to go somewhere and she says, "We go Snarget?" Uh, yeah, that means Target...I guess you can see where we spend the majority of our time. Should I even mention that when we pull into a certain parking lot she says, "We go Starbucks, Mom? Get shy?" (Yes, she's trying to say chai. No, I don't feel like I have a problem that requires a number of steps, say 12).

Know It All

Here's some pics from the Franklin Christmas parade (yes, I know Christmas was over a month ago).

Jason and Sarah found a new Tinkerbell game to play on Disney's website the other day. He decided to set up an account for her for future play on the website so he called over to me, "When's her birthday?" Before I could say a word, Sarah (who was sitting in his lap at the time) called out, "Simtimber!" Now, we have neither spoken of her birthday or its month since September so I found this rather impressive! So I said, "How old are you?" She shrieked, "2!"

What a smart girl!

Difficult

Here's some pics of Carter and Sarah's first experience climbing a tree while we were at Grandma's over Christmas. Carter did it all on his own...he was so proud of himself. Sarah needed a little boost from Daddy.

The other day Carter had a bit of a stuffy nose so he walked up to me and said very seriously, "Since a couple of days ago I've had a runny nose that's been giving me a difficult time." I said, "I'm sorry, son, that your nose is giving you a difficult time." Then he walked away. I stood there for a minute thinking...did I just have a conversation with a 6 year old or a 16 year old? Difficult time? Really? From a 6 year old?

So Funny

Sarah is such a funny little girl. And such a big talker these days! The other day I saw her pick up a little Barney figurine and say, "Hullooo, Bahney. Ower you?" Just made me laugh.

She also really loves to keep me company...while I'm in the bathroom. She comes to visit me repeatedly while I'm in the shower to ask, "You shwer, Mom?" She sits on the counter while I do my "make-ups" and brushes my hair with an eyebrow brush. And the piece de resistance...she stands in the linen closet while I am on the toilet (the linen closet is located directly across from said throne). She is such a considerate soul...she realizes that I must be bored while just sitting there so she likes to play games to keep me entertained. Her favorite is hide and seek in the linen closet. She steps in, closes the door and says, "Where Sawah? She gone gone. She gone bug hunting." Then she swings open the door (oh, sorry about your knee, Mommy) and exclaims, "Here I am!" But the other day her little game backfired on her. She wasn't able to get the door open once she closed herself in. As she frantically tugged at the doorknob she exclaimed, "Mommy?! I stuck in here!"

I couldn't help but chuckle...I know...that makes me a horrible mother. Oh well, we all have to get our kicks somewhere, right?
